Creative visualization is a method where you use the power of your imagination to make positive changes in your life.

Using the mind to create what you want in your life is a more constructive way of changing your life's situations rather than worrying, planning or manipulating people and things..

The Art of Creative Visualization

"Creative Visualization is the art of using mental imagery and affirmation to produce positive changes in your life," according to Shakti Gawain,

It applies the universal law of "attraction," which brings like unto like, a positive attracts a positive; a negative attracts a negative. "What you sow is what you reap," is a saying that rings true and an important point to remember as you begin to change your life into how you want it, using this natural law consciously.

Quantum Physics

Scientists are beginning to discover that matter is not solid, but made up of lots of moving particles, even the nucleus of an atom is not solid, but pure energy.

Shakti Gawain explains it by saying, "Energy vibrates at different speeds and has finer or dense quality, depending on the vibration. For example, a rock is relatively dense, compact energy, and therefore slower to move and change. Living flesh is relatively fine, changes quickly, and is easily affected by many things."

Using Your Imagination

Everybody uses their imagination whether they are aware of it or not. It is what one uses when making something up, when one alters their reality. If a situation arises that one doesn’t want to take part in, the imagination can be used to escape from it, sometimes only mentally or sometimes physically.

The imagination comes in various forms, it is not only pictures, but also can be what you hear, feel or sense.

The Importance of Relaxation

In the book Creative Visualization, Shakti Gawain, who is a pioneering force in the world of "consciousness movement" writes that, "It's important to relax deeply when you are first learning to use creative visualization. When your body and mind are deeply relaxed, your brain wave pattern actually changes and becomes slower."

The slower or alpha state has a much more effective impact on the mind, which is where your reality stems from.

The best time to relax is either at the beginning of the day when you first wake up - in your bed lying down, as long as you don't drift back to sleep, or sitting in a comfortable position, or in the evening before you retire.

Using a relaxation tape or if you can, close your eyes and allow each part of your body to let go of tensions, muscle by muscle starting at the toes and working through to the tip of your head.

A Simple Visualization

If you get used to using your creative mind with simple things first, you can then feel confident with the process and move on to more complex changes.

In your relaxing position imagine yourself in a familiar room, perhaps your bedroom when you were young. Remember the details - the colour of the walls, the feeling of the furnishings, any distinct smells. Try and involve all your senses, and don't get hung up on trying to create the perfect picture.

Once you have mastered that simple technique the next step is to think of something you would like to create, the catch with the process is that you need to believe that you can have it. If you work with simple desires and begin to have a sense of confidence in your abilities you can work with bigger creation projects.

Affirmations

Positive statements of self regard help you to change the beliefs that you have about yourself. An affirmation can be:

  • "I have everything I need to enjoy my here and now."
  • "I love and appreciate myself."
  • "I have the perfect job."

Creative visualization is a step toward change. The beliefs that you hold about yourself and the way that you perceive the world are powerful in your creation of how the way things are. Getting to know how you think and the beliefs that you hold are also necessary for change.
