Ever wish that you could be creative but feel that you don't have the time or you are being self indulgent? Think again, you can be creative!

Everyone has a different idea as to what creativity is and what importance it has in a person's life. Together I hope we can help define what it is to be creative. Merriam Webster defines creativity as:

1 : the quality of being creative

2 : the ability to create

But what is creativity to you? Creativity is not just reserved for suffering artists, musicians, writers and poets but is inside of each one of us. The baker in the neighbourhood, the parent helping their child colour and the store clerk arranging a display, all of these people are creating.

Creating is where we find a way to express ourselves; it is a refuge from our everyday stressors. Creating empowers people, builds their confidence and heals which is essential to body, mind and spirit. Everyone has a wealth of creative abilities, sometimes we just need to look for them and believe in our abilities.

People are fearful when it comes to creating. For many it seems frivolous, they fear failure, they don’t want to be thought of as silly, or they fear that they will find they aren’t creative at all.

If you don’t know where your creativity lies, don’t worry, just have fun with the process. You need to banish the negative self talk and listen to the positive messages being sent to you. Practice saying affirmations about how you CAN create.

Everyone has the tools to live a creative life. You are obviously on the right path since you have chosen to research creativity, so there is a desire to become creative. What do you enjoy? What do you wish you could do?

Start a journal by listing your creative talents; write down as many as you can. Do you like cooking, fashion, music, art, writing, etc? Then beside each one, put a goal that you want to achieve with that particular ability. Do you want to create a new version of a recipe to make it your own? Do you want to shake up your wardrobe by adding personal touches? The possibilities are endless. Please feel free to post your results on the discussion board.

The Creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves." - Carl Jung
