No one was ever born with the kind of character that made them household names. They had to develop the moral character and ethics that made them famous. So can you.

So how can you develop a power personality?

Here are some simple steps to develop a power personality:

Take Responsibility for Your Life

It's easy to just lay blame on society or your current circumstances. But the excuses of poverty, age, a bad education or a poor lineage won't help lift you above the crowd. You should not feel so comfortable in mediocrity that you don't see the real potential that lies within you. You've learned to limit your beliefs as to what you can or cannot do. But it's all just an illusion. There are no barriers but the ones you impose on yourself.

Focus on What You Want From Life

You know you need goals but you don't know how to achieve them. You just need to set up a step-by-step plan to achieve your goal. You need the tenacity to take the first steps toward achievement. The first steps are the hardest but once you have the momentum it becomes harder to stop.

Use Your Imagination and Creativity

You may not be where you want to be now, but you can certainly make vivid pictures that will motivate you to move in the right direction. Imagining yourself as already having what you want is a powerful incentive to get where you want to be. Successful people are always looking for better and more creative ways to do things. Just look at today's technology. None of it would be possible without the vision to create it by a single man or group of like minded visionaries.

Avoid the People and the News That Drag You Down

To be positive you need to associate with positive people. Bad news sells. There is good news out there, but you need to search for it. Look for inspiration. Successful people read uplifting books, like autobiographies. They listen to motivational CDs. Their circle of friends are not the typical neighbor next door who gripes about his life and circumstances.

Life is Meant to be Enjoyed, not Tolerated

Be appreciative of what you have today. Smell the roses, take time out to enjoy the company of your true friends and family. Don't wait for circumstances to make you happy. Peace of mind translates to health and well-being. Buddhist philosophy teaches the concept of mindfulness. Simply put, it's finding joy in the present moment without a great deal of concern for the future.

Fix Your Attention on the Real Values of Life, not Your Problems

Whether through prayer, meditation or the practices of yoga, tai chi and other disciplines, you can get a higher perception of what life is all about and how it should be lived. A higher level of consciousness puts you above the limited thinking of the crowd. You see beyond the ordinary problems and toward a real solution to your worries.

Be a Participant in the World

Be helpful. It's no surprise that many of the rich and famous are well-known philanthropists. They made millions but freely give some away to charitable causes. They're there to help others. Forgiveness, compassion and understanding are the hallmarks that make up a power personality. They're less greedy and protective about their riches. They're involved instead of isolated.

Life is fraught with difficulty. The whole purpose of your life is to live it so others can follow by your example. Learning to develop a power personality doesn't make you greedy. On the contrary, you are doing what everyone should do to make the world a better place for all.
