If you feel as if life is stagnant, add the energy of the color orange to your life. Increase the ways you express your creativity with the following activities.
Orange is full of fire energy. Orange is the color associated with the sacral chakra. In Chakras: Balancing Your Body’s Energy for Health and Harmony (Sterling, 2000) by Patricia Mercier, she says that “[this] chakra is where sexuality is transmuted into the creative arts through self-expression.” Julie Soskin, in How Psychic Are You? 76 Techniques to Boost Your Innate Power (Rainbird Publishing Group, 1986), suggests than an imbalance of orange energy in your system could be the result of extreme deprivation or of seeking endless gratification from food, sex, money, or possessions. Energizing Your Life with Creativity and Self-ExpressionIf you find yourself caught in the extremes of deprivation or gratification, try balancing your sacral energy with forms of self-expression. Take a class in drawing, woodworking, cooking, or dance. Do something that allows you to express who you are and who you’d like to be. If you normally wear delicate earrings, wear a bold pair, go to a restaurant to sample an ethnic cuisine you haven’t experienced, wear funny socks, rent a movie from a genre you normally avoid, put on a radio station you don’t listen to and dance around. Buy a box of crayons and doodle over blank paper. Although you can bring orange objects into your home, this is not a color of passivity. Bring in red, yellow, and white as complementary energetic colors. An Active, Moving MeditationFor the color associated with energy, take a walk. Even if you feel tired, take a short walk outdoors, even if you only manage a stroll around your yard. As you walk, feel a glowing, orange ball of energy located just below your navel. As you breathe in and out, experience this orange sphere encompassing you. Walk slowly, noticing any changes in your energy level. When you complete your walk, imagine molding the orange sphere into a small ball that you push into the chakra spot just below your navel. A Conscious Eating MeditationFor this conscious eating activity, you will need an orange or other orange-colored fruit. Sit where you can avoid disturbances for at least 15 minutes. Hold the orange and notice its color, shape, and texture. Take your time to rotate the fruit and notice where it attached to the tree. Can you locate remnants of the orange blossom, which was the potential fruit? Close your eyes and feel the orange peel with your fingertips. Bring the orange to your nose and inhale its scent. Push a fingernail through the peel and notice any changes to the scent and texture. Peel the orange, doing this at times with your eyes open and at other times with your eyes closed. Explore the inside of the peel with your eyes, nose, fingertips, and tongue. Separate a segment of the orange and bite into it, noticing the taste and texture of the juice on your tongue. As you consciously eat the orange, feel that along with consuming the fruit you are also ingesting the energy of the color orange. Feel that you are consuming positive energy, imagination, creativity, optimism, and joy. If you feel low on energy, you may feel it counterproductive to do more. However, you are not adding errands and chores to your day. Instead, find ways to express yourself, either by taking a class or purchasing a how-to book. Self-expression isn’t limited to the performing arts. The way you dress, decorate your home, and spend your free time all allow you to convey who you are.
