Setting Powerful Intentions

The Sacred Work of Manifesting Fulfillment in Life

Dec 28, 2008 Samuel Turner

Setting a powerful intention is an orderly process that involves factoring, focus, feeling, forecasting and faith. Anything else is wishful thinking.

Metaphysics teachers state that when an intention is set, that intention is manifested on this earthly plane of existence. It sounds easy. Many people intuitively understand manifestation. However, there are many other practical people with honorable intentions that either fail to manifest or do so haphazardly. While talk of setting intentions may be routine, the actual process of setting an intention is not common knowledge.

True Bliss is to Know One’s Self

Set an intention to improve the quality of life and thus increase opportunities for happiness (bliss) in it. Joseph Campbell, famous writer, teacher and philosopher said, “To find your own way is to follow your bliss. This involves analysis, watching yourself and seeing where real deep bliss is -- not the quick little excitement, but the real deep, life-filling bliss.” In societies where materialism is encouraged, there are constant distractions; the little excitements of hoarding commodities. Billions are spent every year with assurance that consumers never look closely at their lives. If by chance, people look more deeply within, they become aware that the essence of being, true happiness is found within. It does not rely on externals for satisfaction.

Steps in the Intentional Process

Once self knowledge is attained, setting intentional goals increases the quality of life and brings increasingly higher levels of personal fulfillment. The steps in this intentional process are:

  • Factoring – Figuring out a clear goal and then breaking down the process into “do-able” steps. Keep in mind that these goals are based on fulfillment, not on obligation. Words like “should, could, have to, ought” imply obligation. If any step feels overwhelming, it needs to be reduced to simple, easily achieved steps.

  • Focus – Taking do-able steps daily. Find time for the important things in life. If not, factor them down so accomplishment is possible. If this doesn’t work; does this goal match the focus?

  • Feeling (Matching) – Accepting goals requires believing in self. Desiring and believing a goal is within personal reach greatly increases the opportunities for success.

  • Forecasting – Forecast success through sharing goals and personal affirmations with others. Sharing with others strengthens personal resolve. Letting others know personal goals can open doors to many previously unknown opportunities.

  • Faith – This is often called the placebo effect among the scientific community. It is an interesting fact that once a goal has been set, it may take on a life of its own. Remember to acknowledge what brings gratitude daily, which will open new possibilities for growth.

Intentions as Sacred Work

Powerful intentions begin with personal acceptance. This familiarity with personal essence and acceptance of human imperfections is a form of sacred work. A greater form of intention moves beyond personal goals and becomes the vision of many; family, friends, neighborhoods, and communities. This is the highest form of sacred work. The gift of fulfillment comes through the service to others.
